Our Story
Three Decades of Glass.
One Unbroken Tradition.
Since 1995, Lumira has transformed Egyptian fire and sand into the quiet luxury that lines the shelves of the world's most discerning brands.
In the heart of Cairo, where the Nile has shaped civilizations for five thousand years, a small group of master glassblowers opened a modest workshop in 1995. Their ambition was simple: to revive an Egyptian craft as old as the pyramids themselves — glass shaped by breath, refined by fire, and adorned with gold.
Three decades later, that workshop has become Lumira — a name trusted by luxury perfume houses in Paris, five-star hotels in Dubai, and gifting brands from New York to Tokyo.
How It Began
Our founder grew up in the shadow of the Khan el-Khalili quarter, watching generations of glassblowers shape bottles for attar perfumers and spice merchants. By the time he opened his own atelier in 1995, the craft was in quiet decline — displaced by cheap machine-pressed imports flooding the global market.
He made a different choice. He refused to automate. He refused to compromise. He hired the last remaining masters of Egyptian hand-blown glass and gave them the one thing they had lost: time. Time to train apprentices. Time to perfect every curve. Time to coat each bottle in real 24-karat liquid gold, the way it was done in the temples of Thebes.
That decision — slow over fast, hand over machine, gold over paint — is why Lumira exists today.
A Timeline of Craft
What We Believe
Slow Is Luxury
True luxury cannot be rushed. A single Lumira bottle passes through seven pairs of hands before it leaves our atelier. The slight variations between pieces are not flaws — they are fingerprints.
Gold Never Fades
We refuse paint, leaf, or coating shortcuts. Every gold detail is real 24-karat liquid gold, hand-painted and fused to the glass at 600°C. It will outlive the bottle itself.
Egypt Is the Source
Every bottle is made in Cairo by Egyptian hands, using borosilicate glass and design language inherited from our pharaonic past. Provenance is the new luxury.
Inside the Cairo Atelier
Our atelier sits in Cairo, where the air carries the heat of the furnace and the soft hiss of breath meeting molten glass. Nineteen master artisans work side by side with a younger generation of apprentices, passing down techniques that cannot be written in a manual.
Every bottle begins as a raw gather of molten Pyrex glass at the tip of a blowpipe. It is shaped, cooled, trimmed, annealed, painted in 24K liquid gold, fired again, inspected, and packed — each step performed by a specialist whose hands have done it ten thousand times before.
We do not outsource. We do not use molds for mass production. We do not add automated steps. Every piece is traceable to the artisan who made it.
